In comparison to other skin treatments which target specific issues in the same way between each person, the beauty of microdermabrasion is that it can be completely customised based on your unique skin type and what you want to achieve.

1. What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a popular skin treatment where a diamond tip hand tool is used to gently polish the surface of the face. The want uses suction at the same time to remove dead skin cells while encouraging blood flow to enhance the skin’s texture and even out the tone.

It can be effectively combined with other cosmetic skin treatments to enhance the frame around your smile, such as skin needling, cosmetic peels or injectables on the Gold Coast.

2. What’s the difference between microdermabrasion and hydradermabrasion?

As mentioned above, microdermabrasion uses a wand with a tip that gently sands and rejuvenates the surface of the skin. The treatment can be modified to suit all skin types including sensitive skin, and is especially effective for scars, congested skin, plus fine lines and wrinkles.

Another effective option for deep exfoliation of the skin is hydradermabrasion. Hydradermabrasion is very similar to microdermabrasion, but works a little differently by instead using water and oxygen to remove dead skin cells. Serums can additionally be added into the water to further refresh the skin and reduce the signs of ageing. It’s also a fantastic way to remove blackheads, improve scarring and increase blood circulation.

3. What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion boasts a range of benefits and can be used to address a number of skin concerns, including:

  • Dry skin
  • Oily skin/acne
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Enlarged pores
  • Sensitive skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles/ageing skin
  • Scarring and pigmentation

4. Express microdermabrasion vs. deluxe microdermabrasion

If you’ve decided that microdermabrasion sounds like a great match for your skin goals, the next question is which type is best? You may have noticed there are different options at most skin clinics which offer a varying number of steps.

Face Studio by Oasis Dental offers both an express microdermabrasion and a deluxe microdermabrasion, meaning there’s an option to suit all budgets, time available and level of rejuvenation required!

Here are the differences between the steps involved in each type of treatment:

Express microdermabrasion/hydradermabrasion (30 minutes)

  • 2x wash and warm, gentle steam (Face, neck, and decolletage)
  • Microdermabrasion or hydradermabrasion (Face, neck, and decolletage)
  • Fortifying serums
  • Radiant mask
  • Face and neck lift massage with tools like rose quartz mushroom or cool balls to stimulate and oxygenate the skin
  • SPF application to protect the skin (sunscreen)

Deluxe microdermabrasion/hydradermabrasion (1 hour)

  • 2x wash and warm, gentle steam (Face, neck, and decolletage)
  • Microdermabrasion or hydradermabrasion (Face, neck, and decolletage)
  • Enzyme peel (Made from naturally derived active ingredients found in fruits)
  • Fortifying serums
  • Radiant mask
  • Face and neck lift massage with tools like rose quartz mushroom or cool balls to stimulate and oxygenate the skin
  • SPF application to protect the skin (sunscreen)

An express micro/hydra is perfect for those who are short on time or have a smaller budget, and potentially more mild skin concerns, while the deluxe micro/hydra includes an enzymatic peel which will further help improve the skin’s surface. So, if budget and time allows this is the perfect option to really give your skin the boost it needs!

If you aren’t sure which option is best for you, we recommend booking a skin consultation with our talented skin specialist where they can discuss your unique needs and assess your skin to help you reach your goals.

5. How often should you have microdermabrasion treatment?

Microdermabrasion results usually last for around a month but differ between clients. If possible, it’s recommended to get microdermabrasion every 4 weeks for at least 6 treatments to see the most significant improvement.

Not only is it effective for the face, but can also be used to help improve the appearance of the neck, hands, back and chest.
