What You Should Do in a Dental Emergency

Root Canal Treatments
Root canal treatment is necessary for saving an infected tooth. Its purpose is to conserve a tooth that normal restorative procedures can no longer save. In the past, you would probably lose a tooth if the tooth had a diseased or injured nerve.
Root canal treatments can sometimes be deferred for a day or two with over-the-counter painkillers which reduce pain and inflammation. We recommend that you do visit our Broadbeach dental practice, or dental studios in Palm Beach or Chirn park as soon as possible to confirm a diagnosis and commence treatment.
Lost Teeth/Trauma
If you have an accident where a tooth is knocked out or broken, contact us as soon as possible. You have under a hour in which to save the tooth.
Here’s what to do if your tooth is knocked out:
- Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. Touching the root (the part of the tooth below the gum) can damage cells necessary for bone reattachment.
- Gently rinse the tooth in milk to remove dirt. Do not scrub.
- Place the clean tooth back in the socket if possible or store in milk on your way to the clinic.
- It is important not to let the tooth dry out. If it is not possible to place in milk, hold the tooth in the mouth between the cheek and the teeth.
